Building For Tomorrow

You are tomorrow what you build today and have built every day prior.

What do your actions today say about how you value your tomorrows?

On one of the white boards in my office I have a note written across the bottom that reads,

"What are you doing now to make for a better later?"

It's hanging right above my MacBook, so when I am sitting at my desk and start to feel the desire to scroll though my Facebook newsfeed I can catch a glimpse of it and invest my focus elsewhere.

Understand this:  we all only have 24 hours in a day.  Each of us.  Rich, poor, successful, unsuccessful, happy, sad--everybody.  It's not that you don't have time.  You have time.  You have the same amount of time as myself and every other person on this planet.  It's how you are choosing to spend your time that is different.

Everything you do--EVERYTHING you do--everything you do is a choice.  Until you accept the responsibility that goes along with making choices, you are not ready to accept the responsibility that is inherent to being great.

Because here's the thing about great that almost everybody misunderstands:  it is not a one time thing that you get to milk forever.  It is not even a daily practice that must be employed.  It is an every moment practice.  The moment you lose sight of the fact that you need to be great in order to stay great, the second you forget that this moment right here matters, is the moment you become mediocre.

Your actions reflect your priorities--I've said it before and I still believe it to be true.  How are you investing your time?  With family?  With friends?  With business?  With studies?  With health and well-being?  Any and all are worthy causes.  It is not about what you are choosing to invest your time in as much as it is you are CHOOSING to invest your time in it.

At the end of each day, all you have is what you built that day and every day prior.  Once you accept the responsibility of living the life you want to live, you can live it.  Once you accept the responsibility that goes along with making choices, you can make the choices you want to make.  Once you accept the responsibility that is inherent to greatness, you can be great.

What are you doing now to make for a better later?

Decide to be great… and expect greatness.
