It's Not About The Reps

"How many reps should I do?"
"I feel like I should be able to do more reps."
"I could do more reps if I didn't have to think about it."

I hear all of these statements and questions with almost all new clients and most people in general.
But here's the issue:  It's not about the quantity of reps performed; it's about the quality of each individual rep and, specifically, the quality of the challenge presented over a specific part of the performed range of motion for each rep.

1,000 reps with no tissue challenge = no tissue challenge.  How do you stimulate tissue to adapt?  By simply moving your structure of by challenging the tissue controlling the motion of your structure?  Why are you exercising?  To mindlessly move or to potentially create tissue adaptations?

It's not about the number of times you lift the weight.  It is about appropriately challenging the desired tissues.

It's not about the reps.  It's about the challenge.

Your body.  Your training.
